Single Tree Hill – Nuwara Eliya has become one of the best hiking spots in Sri Lanka. Nuwara Eliya is always consisted of many hills and this spot is well enough to attract the hikers as well as tourists. How to get there
Most effective way is getting here via Kandy from Colombo and it is a journey which you will have to travel about 220km from Colombo. It is not hard to get to Kandy (Peradeniya) as there is almost a straight drive from the beginning. Though the distance from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya is below 70km far, that road is considered as one of the most spectacular paths in Sri Lanka. It will take at least 2 hours to get to Nuwara Eliya.
What to do in Single tree Hill
There are lots of things you can enjoy in Nuwara Eliya. But, Single Tree Hill is a place you can enjoy hiking. Hiking in one of the highest places in the island will bring you an awesome feeling indeed. It is read almost 7000ft as the elevation of this place above mean sea level. If you are a good hiker, it will take about one and half hour to reach to the top.
Top of the hill is a great place to pass your tiredness. Because, you will be able to see the entire Nuwara Eliya from this top. You will see Haggala mount range as well as Piduruthalagala Mountain which is being the tallest mountain of Sri Lanka. There are tea plantations in the area and you will have to walk through in those areas. Most importantly the name, it has been made because of the single tree left on the top. Single Tree Hill is a best place to spend your night with the coldness of the mountains. If you be on the top at 5.30 p.m., you will be able to see how the clouds are formed. It has to be a day which is free from both rain and the mist.
