Emirates and SriLankan Airlines Forge Interline Partnership for Enhanced Passenger Connectivity

Emirates and SriLankan Airlines have recently announced an exciting reciprocal interline agreement aimed at enhancing connectivity and convenience for passengers of both airlines. This partnership will enable travelers to access new destinations on each other’s networks seamlessly via Colombo and Dubai, all while using a single ticket and benefiting from the ease of baggage transfers.

Effective immediately, passengers can purchase tickets that unlock access to 15 regional destinations operated by SriLankan Airlines through Colombo. Among these destinations are two new Indian cities, Madurai and Tiruchirapally, as well as Gan Island in the Maldives. This means Emirates’ passengers can now travel seamlessly on a single ticket, enjoying a generous baggage policy and hassle-free baggage check-through to their final destination.

The interline network includes a variety of Far East and South Asian destinations such as Cochin, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Malé, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, Guangzhou, Seoul, and Tokyo. This expanded connectivity offers passengers more choices and convenience.

SriLankan Airlines’ passengers are not left out; they can also enjoy the benefits of Emirates’ global network and connect to 15 cities operated by Emirates beyond Dubai. These additional destinations span the Middle East, Africa, Russia, and the United States, offering SriLankan’s customers a premium travel experience and partnership benefits when flying on Emirates to cities like Bahrain, Amman, Dammam, Medina, Cairo, Muscat, Nairobi, Moscow, Tel Aviv, and various US cities including New York JFK, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, and Houston.

Travelers can book their itineraries immediately through both airlines’ websites, emirates.com and srilankan.com, as well as their preferred online and offline travel agencies.

Adnan Kazim, Emirates’ Chief Commercial Officer, expressed his satisfaction with the interline partnership, emphasizing how it provides customers with more choices and access to additional destinations. He also expressed enthusiasm for further cooperation between Emirates and SriLankan to enhance customer benefits.

Richard Nuttall, CEO of SriLankan Airlines, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the importance of the partnership in connecting Sri Lanka to the world. He emphasized the collaborative nature of the partnership and its role in supporting tourism growth in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka remains a vital part of Emirates’ extensive network, with the airline serving almost 140 destinations worldwide. Since launching services to Sri Lanka in 1986, Emirates has transported over 11 million passengers to and from Colombo. The airline currently offers two direct daily flights to Colombo, using the Boeing 777-300ER, and an additional daily service via Malé, providing passengers with flexibility and minimal connection times.

It’s important to note that travelers flying to US destinations on Emirates and SriLankan interline tickets must clear their baggage with US Customs at the first point of entry in the United States, in accordance with SriLankan Airlines’ guidelines.
