Discover upcoming flight expansions to Sri Lanka: Mahan Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Arkia introducing new routes for convenient travel.
Iranian Mahan Airlines has received the green light to initiate scheduled flights to Sri Lanka starting in November, as confirmed by the Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation. The Minister, Nimal Siripala de Silva, shared that the ministry has granted Mahan Air approval for commencing flights to Sri Lanka. Discussions with the Civil Aviation Authority are ongoing to finalize the flight schedule and frequency.
Additionally, Turkish Airlines, Turkey’s national carrier, has also been approved to launch direct scheduled flights from Istanbul to Colombo beginning in October. This marks the return of Turkish Airlines’ direct flights to Sri Lanka after a decade, providing connectivity to North European destinations served exclusively by the airline.
Furthermore, for the first time, Israeli airline Arkia is set to introduce direct flights from Tel Aviv to Colombo starting from 31 October. Arkia plans to deploy its Airbus A321neo aircraft for this route, offering outbound flights on Tuesdays and return flights on Wednesdays.
This development, which had been in progress since 2022, was delayed due to the requirement for approval from the Ministry of Defence due to the armed security arrangements for Israeli flights.
