We’re thrilled to share the news that, in a groundbreaking move to boost tourism, the Department of Immigration and Emigration has introduced a free Visa regime for nationals of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan.
This pilot program, effective immediately until March 31, 2024, aims to revitalize the tourism industry, following the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers.
Here are the key details:
- Eligibility: Foreign nationals from the specified countries holding Diplomatic, Official, Public Affairs, Service, and Ordinary passports qualify for the visa-free regime.
- Countries: China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan.
- ETA Application: Travelers must apply for Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) before arriving in Sri Lanka, free of charge until March 31, 2024.
- Visa Period: Tourists can enjoy a 30-day free visa period with a double entry facility permitted within 30 days from the first arrival.
- ETA Extension: The free ETA period of 30 days cannot be extended beyond March 31, 2024. For visits beyond this date, an extension can be applied for, subject to the appropriate fee.
Please note that this visa-free regime is currently applicable to the mentioned seven countries. Visitors from other nations should adhere to the general rules and regulations applicable to Sri Lanka ETA.
