Experience the grandeur of Kandy Esala Perahera as the annual procession begins, featuring Kumbal and Randoli Peraheras along with traditional rituals.
The annual Kandy Esala Perahera is set to commence today with the first Kumbal Perahera. The procession will start at 7.10 p.m. from the Sri Dalada Maligawa, followed by the four main devales of Kandy Natha, Vishnu, Katagama, and Pattini.
The Kumbal Perahera will move through various streets, including Dalada Veediya, D. S. Senanayake Veediya, Pansala Para, Deva Veediya, Sir Bennet Soysa Veediya, Yatinuwara Veediya, and Raja Veediya, before returning to the respective shrines around 10 p.m., as stated by Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela.
Following the Kumbal Peraheras, the Randoli Peraheras will take place from August 26 to August 30. The day Perahera is scheduled for August 31 after the Water Cutting ritual at the Mahaweli ferry in Getambe.
After the conclusion of the day Perahera, the Nilames will visit President Ranil Wickramasinghe at the President’s House in Kandy to officially inform him about the successful completion of the Perahera.
