The miyunu means dead in the native Sinhala language. Probably the fall got its name because it is dead most of the time in the year and also this waterfall is named after famous Sri Lankan poet Meemama premathilaka , So people know this waterfall as meemana ella as well.
The waterfall is situated in the Kukulagala forest reserve which is rich in biodiversity and home to a number of fauna and species. The feeding watercourse starts from the horena Kanda.
The falls are nearly 60m tall and are most active during the southwest monsoon. where you can have the best views.
