Bambarakanda – The Tallest Waterfall in Sri Lanka
Babarakanda Falls
Bambarakanda waterfall, presently recognized as the highest in Sri Lanka, is situated on the border of Sabaragamuwa Central and Uva Provinces. Located in the Badulla district of Uva province , Bambarakanda stands at a height of 263 meters, flowing in two tiers from Kudo Oya, a tributary of Weli Oya, joining the Valave.
The Name – Babarakanda
The mountain where Bambarakanda falls isn’t referred to as Babarakanda. The name might be linked to the presence of Babara Wada around the waterfall.
The Stream that Gives Life
Fed by Kudi Oya, a tributary of Veli Oya, Bambarakanda contributes to the Walawe River’s water. The Devil’s Stairs, a stream parallel to the Ohia-Kaluphana road, supports more unknown waterfalls. Continuous water supply from Mahiliya’s southern slopes sustains the flow.
299th Highest Waterfall in the World
Sri Lanka, with over 600 waterfalls, hosts Bambarakanda, the 299th highest globally, standing at an impressive 263 meters.
Tourist Attraction
The Babarakanda area is famous among tourists due to numerous trekking and camping destinations offering breathtaking views. The falls cascade in two parts, allowing visitors to climb to the top for a mesmerizing view.
