This waterfall is supplied by one of the primary tributaries of the Mahaweli River, sourced from the rain-rich Wata region, once the rainiest area in Sri Lanka. Due to its remote location from human settlements, this tributary hasn’t been given a distinct name.

The Pasbage Korale Regional Council has provided essential facilities, including a viewing platform and public amenities near Galboda Falls. A nominal fee of 50 rupees (2023) is charged for access and maintenance.
