“18 Bends” alias “Daha Ata Wanguwa” is a Sri Lankan Attraction due to its panoramic view providing bends. Situated in the Kandy Mahiyangana highway, 18 bends has got its attention for a long time. The recent renovations have made a smooth drive to the people who expect to travel in or out of Kandy, although it was a challenging one about a decade ago. The place is situated 62km far from Kandy town, which consumes about one and half hours to get there. The name in Sinhala, “Daha Ata Wanguwa,” means 18 bends literally. However, only 17 bends have remained after the road expansions conducted years back.
“18 Bends” consists of several panoramic views that spread up to 100 miles away. Along with the view, the cool breeze will be a constant as the location has been set right in the central hills at its best. Being the only road that connects two main parts of the country, Central Province and Uva Province, Daha Ata Wanguwa is crucial for the supplies. One end of the route runs to Mahiyanaganaya, where many ancient ruins have been located, while it can then run to Anuradhapura or Polonnaruwa. They are considered the most ancient Kingdoms in Sri Lanka.
